Giovanni Majer says: “The first thing I did when I got to Taipei was go to a tea shop. I didn’t speak Chinese; the guy working there didn’t speak English. Yet he still got me to stay for a few hours, sampling his oolong teas. Then, when I was about to leave, he said not to buy anything; it was too early. From that day, tea — daily drink, hospitality ritual, luxury, meditation tool — was my way of discovering Taiwan’s culture and traditions. I want to tell you everything, from the mountains and monasteries, to the scent of coal and karaoke”.
